I have a client for an acoustic OM (Orchestra Model) guitar build. We talked through the types of woods he wants for the guitar. He wants Bearclaw Sitka Spruce for the top and Monkeypod for the back and sides. Well, Monkeypod with great color variances is hard to find and very expensive.
I found Monkeypod that I wanted with the correct look and ordered it out of the country. The order has been in transit and stuck in US customs for over 20 days so far. I continue to update the customer and I’m glad he understands. This is soooo frustrating and have no idea when I will finally get the wood to begin the build.
I can’t do much until I get the actual pieces so the customer can tell me what wood he wants for the neck, rosette and ornaments, etc. We will need to do a color match of all the various woods and we can’t do that until I get the monkeypod. It’s a shame that I couldn’t find what I wanted domestically.
I need to find a better supplier!
Sigh!
